Awesome DuckTales News AND Animatic (by irestuff)!

Well, it's been a while since I last posted. Close to a month, actually. Kind of embarrassing. But today, I have TWO things for you. Hopefully that'll make up for such a long break. This is Clara Murphy, Queen of Fandoms, and today we're going to talk about DuckTales! WOO-OO!

First, as you can deduce from the title of the post, I have a bit of news for you all. And it is rather exciting news indeed.

This very day, the final episode of Season 1 of DuckTales aired.

THE FINAL EPISODE.

*fangirl squeal*

I will say, I haven't seen the episode myself, or several of the episodes preceding it, but I CANNOT WAIT to catch up. Especially after seeing the clips pop up on my YouTube Recommended "Hey You Should Watch This" section.

This is going to be epic. It is going to be SO EPIC.

Second, in commemoration of the events of the day, I've decided to show you all a video I found. It's by a person on YouTube called irestuff, who did another animatic combining DuckTales and the theme song of Gravity Falls. But this one is, I think, way cooler. Take a look.

That is kind of scary.

I mean, this kind of thing in general is scary. The kind of thing where you have this character who you really like, but then he is taken over by the main villain of the entire story and is turned against his friends, and then the remaining heroes have to go fight him... yeah, THAT is scary, in an 'oh my gosh no this cannot be happening please NO' kind of way.

I'm beginning to think maybe 'scary' isn't quite the right word. But 'dramatic' doesn't have quite the weight needed to describe how it feels when that kind of thing happens in a story.

It makes for a dramatic story, of course, but it also makes me want to just about strangle them... as soon as they tell me what happens to these characters... though that might save them, depending on how things end up.

Sorry, that went off on a bit of a tangent. Anyway, about the video itself.

The song I think was from some TV spinoff of the Tangled movie. I've never seen the show, but I've seen this, and also one or possibly two other videos with the same song. Yeah, two, including a video of just the song from the original episode. This one's the first one I saw, and the best one. REALLY AWESOME!  :D

This was pretty well made too, visually. It actually looks like the characters from the show, which makes it just a bit more dramatic. One of the other videos I saw was done in this anime style, and didn't really look like the original show it was from. It was okay, but it wasn't as... well, scary, I guess.
This sort of thing was actually what I was afraid was going to happen in the finale of Gravity Falls. And maybe it did. Or maybe it didn't. But that was what I initially expected.

I don't THINK this is what will happen in the season finale of DuckTales. But you never know. I mean, MAGICA. *shudders at the creepiness/evilness* 
BUT ANYWAY, that is my post! Go watch the season finale of DuckTales! I know I'M ready to watch it--ready as I'll ever be.  ;)

Summer Holiday With My Characters!

Well, it's been a month since last I posted on my blog. And that is because I've been working on something. Working on getting five people to agree to go on holiday together. And I finally sent them off yesterday! I'm Clara Murphy, Queen of Fandoms, and this is Summer Vacation With My Characters!

You may remember my last post: Grace from Time Traveller's Daughter created a tag, and tagged me with it. I've been working on it for a while, and it's finally done.


Anyway, the rules are:

1.     Pick 3 to 5 characters from your writings. These can be from any of your works—long or short, work-in-progress or finished, in any form—and the characters can be of any kind, but they must be your own characters.

2.     Each answer must be written as if you are interviewing all of the characters together, in real life. (See my own example later in the post). They don't have to be very elaborate, and can in fact be as simple as each character just saying his answer—in his own voice, of course. But remember, they are all together in the same place.

3.     You must link back to the person who tagged you.

4.     You must tag at least one other person to do the tag.

This is such a fun tag. I suppose this will honestly be my first bit of fanfic. That I've actually written and posted, that is.

Now, just as a forewarning, I may be cheating just a little bit. The thing calls for original characters. And some of them are in fact completely original to me, even if I've attached them to someone else's story world. But some of them are sort of pre-existing. You'll probably be able to tell who. But I think they're original enough for this. At least I hope so.

Besides, that's what you get for tagging someone whose only known writing is about fandoms.  XD   Just saying!

Introduce your characters (or rather, let them introduce themselves)!

*four people are sitting on a couch and armchairs in my living room when I enter with a camera; instantly, a woman dressed in purple, with mostly-brown hair, jumps up with a bright smile*

(A) *in British accent* Hello there! My name is Atlas Fletcher. *curtsies a little* I’m the captain of the A.S. Hildegarde.

*a middle-aged man, sitting in an armchair, laughs with a sneer*

(B) *in American accent* You? Captain of a sea-faring vessel?

(A) Well, not exactly…

(B) I knew it!

(A) …I suppose it’s really more of a sky-faring vessel. An airship, if you will!

(B) *blinks in surprise* Uh—wai—what?

(A) Oh! And I’m from the year 1875, by the way. Since you all look rather, er, modern, I thought I should make that clear.

*a boy with dark-brown, rather messy hair sits forward with interest*

(S) *in American accent* You’re a time traveller and an airship captain? Huh. Looks like this will be a worthwhile trip after all.

*a man, wearing a teal coat and brown fedora, who had been sitting straight and quiet, now leans forward a little*

(P) *in a slight Australian accent* Name’s Perry. Perry Flynn. *tips his fedora*

(S) Hold on, wasn’t it Peregrine Flynn?

(A) He told me it was Percival.

(P) Uh, well, it’s both, actually. Peregrine Percival Flynn. But Perry’s shorter.

(S) Then why not just say ‘Perry’ to all of us?

(P) *slight pause, shrugs*

(S) *suspicious* Uh-huh. Well, I’m gonna be straightforward with my name. It’s Shermie. Shermie Pines. I’m from Glass Shard Beach.

(A) That’s a rather interesting name. Where is that?

(S) New Jersey. But it’s kind of boring. Just like the rest of my life.

(A) Boring? Now, how could your whole life be boring?

(S) Well, not all of us are skyship captains.

(A) Yes, but haven’t you got brothers and sisters?

(S) One brother. Stanford. But he’s like fifteen years older than me, and he lives way out in some little town in Oregon. *takes on mock realization* Of course, what was I thinking, that’s a total riot right there! How could anything be boring around him when I haven’t even seen him in years?

(A) You’re being sarcastic, aren’t you?

(B) UGH, you all take too long! I’m—

*he is interrupted by a door opening, and a teenaged girl—who looks strangely like Liv Tyler and is carrying a book—bursting through said door; he groans*

(G) *in American accent* Sorry I’m late! I just got a little caught up in my reading, and—did I miss it?

(A) Not at all, dear girl! We were just introducing ourselves to this small black box with a monacle lens on it.

(B) *snickers*

(A) Though I’m not really sure why.

(G) Oh, okay, then. *clears throat and looks at the camera* I’m Gwen Walker. I’m seventeen years old. And… well, I guess that’s the basics. I don’t have to say where I’m from, do I? No? Okay. *sits next to Shermie*

(B) *arms crossed* My name’s Biff, as if anybody cares. From Danville.

*Perry’s eyebrows rise, but he says nothing*


Who drives on the trip?


(A) Ooh! Can I try?

(B) *a little incredulous* You just said you’re from 1875! What do ya wanna do, kill us?

(A) *a bit embarrassed* Oh. So sorry. I just was wondering what it’d be like to drive a car—have been since I first saw one.

(S) I don’t blame her. I can’t wait to get my driver’s license either.

(A) What about our Miss Walker, here?

(G) No thanks. I want to get in some reading. *taps the book on her lap twice*

(B) Good, cause I want to drive.

(P) I don’t think so.

(B) What, you think I forged my driver’s license or something?

(P) Let’s just say I think we’d all be a bit safer if I was the one driving.

(B) And what’s that supposed to mean?

*Perry says nothing*

(B) Fine. I need some relaxation anyway.


What is your most essential item to bring on the trip?


(G) Definitely my Tolkien books. Which I already have in my bags, except for Silmarillion. *holds up her book* This, I’m going to read. I’m going to try to get at least to Beren and Luthien, but after that—

(B) *snort-laughs* Seriously, you made those words up, didn’t you?

(G) Wha—no! Haven’t you ever heard of Tolkien?

(B) Nope. All that silly fantasy stuff is… is silly!

(G) *annoyed* Well, then, I’d like to know just what you think is essential.

(B) Well— *pause, thinking* uh…

*Gwen raises her eyebrows*

(B) Okay! I’ve already got it on, alright? I think I’ve got the most essential thing on me right now.

(G) And that is…?

(B) *thumbs toward his face and grins*

(G) *rolls eyes*

(A) Well, I’m sure that is very essential for you. But for me, it’s this! *holds up a tarnished grey pocketwatch*

(S) Why? Is it some kind of time machine?

(A) No—

(S) Maybe the key to operating your airship?

(A) No, no, nothing like that. It’s just something I was given a long time ago by a very dear friend of mine. I’d never part with it. *smiles fondly in memory*

(B) UGH, sentimental mush. Next! Flynn?

(P) *fingering something small on a chain around his neck* No comment.

(G) How about you, Shermie?

(S) *shrugs* Ehh, I don’t have one.

(G) You don’t?

(S) Nope. I got all I really need *taps his own head twice* up here.

(A) Oh yes! Dakota told me about these! Let me see, what was that title? *thinks just a moment* ‘You Snuck Your Way Right Into My Heart’.

(P) Hm. Really?

(A) Well, it was the best one he played for me. A lot better than that silly woodcutter song, though it wasn’t—

(B) Okay, hold it a second. Hold it. Did you say Dakota? As in the time traveller?

(A) Yes. Why?

(B) *throws up hands and groans* Of course! Out of all the people I could’ve gotten stuck with on this trip, it had to be a friend of that little—

(A) Mind your words, sir! Now what do you have against him?

(B) That twerp? *humourless laugh* Everything. The whole reason I even agreed to this trip was to get away from the Dakotas for a while!

(A) I don’t understand! Why would he—

(B) *holds up finger as he speaks* Heavy metal.

(A) *confused* What?

(B) Anything heavy metal. That’s what kind of music I want to listen to in the car.

*Atlas still seems confused, but is interrupted before she can say anything further*

(S) I don’t really care what kind of music we listen to. I’m not into all that stuff.

(P) Same.

(G) If I had to pick just one song, I might pick ‘The Greatest Adventure’, from the Rankin-Bass Hobbit movie. Though all the songs in that are really good. I practically grew up with that cartoon.

(A) *slowly* What’s a cartoon?


What movie would you watch in the car?


(B) Any Western. See, those are why you people are so amusing.

(S) Us people?

(B) You know what I mean.

(S) *suspiciously* I think I’m starting to.

(P) I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’ll have much time to watch anything. But I do like spy movies. James Bond, Mission Impossible, things like that.

(G) The Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit is my thought.

(A) You really like those hobbit-stories and all, don’t you?

(G) Yes. But I don’t think they’ve made very many adaptations of them, especially not that you can watch—

(P) Well, aren’t you forgetting the Lord of the Rings movies?

(G) *kind of not wanting to talk about it* Well, the first animated version, the Bashki one, is kind of—

(B) Hello? *knocking on the top of her head—she annoyedly whacks at his fist a bit* Hello, anybody home? Think, girly! He’s talking about the live-action ones, not the cartoons!

(G) *eyes widen* There are live-action movies? Of Lord of the Rings?

(P) *nods*

(G) *pauses, thinking; draws breath through teeth as she hesitates* Can we bring them all?

(S) Wow, you are really into those stories. I personally like science-fiction movies. Particularly older ones, just because they’re fun, but I like it more when they try to go into how the science-fiction works. I like proving them wrong.

(G) Wait, what?

(S) To be more specific, proving their science wrong. Most of these things, if they’re possible at all, usually wouldn’t work even theoretically by their physics.

(G) Right. Well, I’ll just trust you to know what you’re talking about.

(A) Whether they’re accurate or not, I’ve heard about a lot of time travel films from your day and age. I’d like to try some of them.

(B) *sarcastic* Sure, time travel! I wonder why you’d think of that!

(A) Well, you know, some of my best friends are time travellers—even Cav is one of them!

(B) “Cav”? Who’s “Cav”?

(A) My friend. The one who gave me the pocketwatch. At least, that’s his nickname: Cav. It’s short for—

(B) UGH, please, don’t say it. Please don’t tell me you’re talking about Doc Cavendish.

(A) I didn’t know he was a doctor too!


What snacks would you bring?


(A) Well, I think pistachios might be—

(B) Nope!

(A) What?

(B) That one is ruled out. Pick something else, or skip your answer.

(A) *frowning* Goodness, you are rude. But either way, I would rather like to stop at one of these swift-meal places.

(S) You mean fast food?

(A) Yes, that was it!

(G) I’m bringing apples. We’ve always got them back home, and they’re very good.

(A) Yes, I’ve always got some on my ship. Though I don’t need as many, it’s still a good idea to bring them along.

(S) Toffee peanuts, for sure. They’re my favourite snack.

*everyone looks at him blankly*

(S) Why does everyone give me a weird look when I say that? It’s not like nobody’s heard of them before!


What is your destination?


(S) Anywhere interesting. My parents keep trying to get me to go visit my brother out in Oregon for a summer. But come on. A small town like where he lives? Way too boring for me.

(A) Could we go someplace modern? I’ve only seen this time once, and that was very brief. I’d like to find out more about it.

(B) I don’t really care, as long as there’s a lot of people there.

(P) Why’s that?

(B) Just my personal preference. You got a different preference, Flynn?

(P) Actually, no. Not really.

(G) Ooh, I’ve got some preferences! My first pick would definitely be Middle Earth. There’s so many places there we could go! Rivendell, the Shire, Rohan, Minas Tirith…

(B) *sing-song-y voice* You’re making up words again…

(G) *sing-song-y voice* No, I’m no-ot!

(A) Those sound interesting, actually. I might agree to go there.

(G) Thank you, Miss Fletcher! But if that one doesn’t end up being agreed on, by *looks at Biff* certain parties, my second choice might be the North Pole.

(B) That’s silly. There’s no such thing.

(S) Huh! Now who’s being silly? Of course there’s such a thing. There’s just not a Santa Claus or elves or anything like that up there.

(G) There is— *realizes she just let those words out of her mouth; quietly:* too.

(B) Great. Now we’ve got two crazy females on the trip. Hey, why don’t I call Libby and round out the trio?

(A) Oh, don’t be rude. Gwen means the ones in the stories, right?

(S) Are we allowed to go to places that aren’t real, though?

(P) I’m pretty sure it’s allowed. Seems like it’d have to be.


How long will the vacation last?


(A) A month!

(P/B) NO!

(G) Well, it should at least be a couple of weeks. If we are going to Middle Earth, we’re going to have a lot to do.

(B) That much is true: we will have a lot to do. Plenty.

(P) *growls*

(A) Well, Mr. Flynn! That was an amazing imitation of a platypus’ growl. Where did you learn to do it?

(P) *sort of stammers* Uh—well—I guess it just comes natural.

(S) *whispers to Gwen* I’m kind of hoping it’ll be a longer trip, too.

(G) *whispers back* Why’s that?

(S) I want to observe our, uh, road-mates. Especially the men. They’ve been acting very suspicious, and I think they’ve got something to hide.

(G) Fill me in when you find out something new?

(S) Sure. At least you’re not part of the Danville Debate Club over there.

*Gwen scrunches her eyebrows*

(S) *as if it should be obvious* Come on. Biff said he’s from Danville. Atlas knows some of the same people he knows.

(G) And Mr. Flynn?

(S) I noticed how he looked when Biff said he was from Danville. Gotta be. Besides—well—they all look kind of… weird. Weird in the same ways. I don’t really know how else to describe it.

(G) Don't worry. I get it. *to self* To be honest, you all looked cartoon-y, but—

(S) What was that?

(G) Nothing.


How would you pass the time along the way (aside from the things already mentioned)?


(A) By doing everything I possibly can! It’s been so long since I’ve been on a road trip, with other people! I don’t think I’ll have any trouble passing time.

(S) Wait, you haven’t been on a road trip with other people?

(A) No, I have! It’s just… been a while. *pause* A long while.

(B) Why was I not told about this question? Did you come up with this one at the last minute, bec—

(S) Why? Don’t want to talk about what you’re gonna do on the way?

(B) No, I hadn’t THOUGHT about what I’m gonna do on the way.

(P) I’ll be driving, of course. And keeping an eye on some of our… passengers. *whispering to the camera* Between you and me, this trip is a time bomb waiting to go off.

(B) *to Shermie* What are you looking at, nuthead?

(S) Just you. Your face. The way you’re holding yourself. Things like that.

(B) *shouting, voice squeaking just a little* Look, can somebody tell the kid to stop studying me? I’m getting weirded out here!

(P) *to camera* Hold on. *goes back into the group* Now, gents, let’s not lose the plot, here.

(B) Wha—?

(G) You’re exactly right, Mr. Flynn. We need to stay focused on the questions.

*the others generally agree*

(G) As for me, I’ll probably be mostly reading. That and listening to Shermie’s theories.

(B) Listening to that little twerp? Ha, shouldn’t be surprised. You’re not one of the fun females. Just another nerd. Just like that stupid Cavendish and Dakota.

(S) You’re saying nerd like it’s a bad thing.

(A) *crossing arms* Well, I should certainly hope it’s not a bad thing. *glares at Biff*

(B) Eh, at least this one’s got guts. And she’s the most annoying one, always yapping about her ‘dear old friends’. But she’s sure got guts.

(A) *eyes narrow* You’d best watch your words about my friends.

(B) *leans forward* You’d best watch your back.

(P) *steps in* Enough! Now, can we try not to kill each other before we leave the driveway?

*the two stand, still glaring, for a tense, brief moment, before their stances relax*

(A) *sigh* Mr. Flynn, you’re completely right. This sort of fighting won’t do any good. *holds out hand, still half-glaring* Shall we make it pax, for the time being, Mister…

(B) I told you, my name’s Biff. *walks away, sits back down in the armchair*

(S) *to Gwen* See? Danville Debate Club. I think what I find from studying them is gonna make this the most interesting summer of my life.

(G) Yeah. *sighs* Let’s hope this actually works.

(A) Now, to the automobile! Let’s be off!

(B) I think some of us already are.

*I push the button on the camera, and the video cuts off*

I'm Clara Murphy, Queen of Fandoms, and welcome, readers and fellow fans, to summer!

That's right, the season of Phineas and Ferb, the season of Gravity Falls, the season of invention and mystery and adventure, has begun!!!

Now, to kick off our days of summer vacation (however many there may be), allow me to show you all a combination of two of the best summers ever:

Yeah, some of you may have seen that one before, back when they first put it up on April 1st. My favourite parts are definitely 'cheese' and the last part. "You do not wanna hear this voice singing" my foot.

But I have one you may NOT have seen  ;)

OH YEAH. A couple of villains, just going on a rollercoaster. And it's actually pretty well done, with the animation, and the voice-acting. Accurate, and very funny, and so unexpected.

And of course, by unexpected, I mean... unexpected. Seriously. Watch the thing. Also, check out the guy's channel. Phineas Flynn's Law is really awesome, and I'd say definitely worth some time  :)


So there you go! A bit of fun to kick off the summer! I for one can't wait to find out what it has in store for us.

Oh, and one more thing:

SUMMER BELONGS TO YOU!

New Fandom!

This post is really, really overdue.

But YES! I have a fandom to add to the list. It's a really, really cool one. So here it is:

Gravity Falls

This is like my favourite show now, okay? I mean, the episodes always ALWAYS surprise me, and I absolutely love the characters, and the whole big mystery of the thing is so cool, and just--GAH, I can't even tell you how awesome it is. Mainly because of spoilers. But I'll try to expand on a few of the things I said.

#1 - The Individual Episodes Always Surprise Me

Take just the first episode. They had two (oh goodness, maybe even three) different possibilities for how things could have gone, and any of them would have worked. But instead, they went for the most completely random thing ever. The episodes always surprise me, and only once did I genuinely dislike the surprise (and it was still an otherwise good and interesting episode).

#2 - The Characters Are Well-Done

They are so unique and actually likeable. Right off, in Episode 1, you care about Dipper and Mabel, and they're such a good brother-sister team, which is so rare. Dipper's kind of awkward, and Mabel's kind of absolutely crazy, but they have a really strong bond. Grunkle Stan... okay, yes, he can be a major jerk sometimes. A lot. But as you watch the show, you'll find out why I love this guy so much. Even in Episode 1, you start to wonder about him. The others are good too--like Soos and Wendy. Some of the characters you won't meet for some time, and several of those characters are really, really good. There's one in particular that I happen to really like, but who I can't talk about (secrets). Still, my personal favourites will always be the twins, so to speak  ;)

#3 - The Overarching Mystery Is Amazing

I really can't say much on this one, because #Spoilers. Just believe me when I say it's really, really cool. There's even codes in each episode to figure out. I've done a few myself. And it's so much fun rewatching the earlier episodes, understanding the significance of even little details, knowing what things will lead to, how things go. Oh my gosh, is it ever fun.

And just for a little glimpse into the world of the show, I'll give you the theme song as well!

Some of you know how much I LOVE Back to the Future. I fangirl about it every time I think about it. Sure, I know there are a few issues (language, for one, and some other mature things), but acknowledging those, it's still an absolutely awesome series, that I will probably love forever.

Gravity Falls is like that. I know there are some things about the show that are downright creepy, and of course the customary use of 'butt' which is just kind of annoying. And I know that they make wrong choices sometimes. But even with all that, it's still an absolutely awesome series that I will probably love forever.

So there you go! I've been wanting to post this for a while. Hope you give it a try, and end up loving it as much as I do.

P&F: Phineas and Candace's Dad?!

Everyone who's watched Phineas and Ferb knows that the boys are stepbrothers--Ferb's dad married Phineas and Candace's mom. The creators of the show have never said anything about who Phineas' dad or Ferb's mom is, or what happened to make Lawrence and Linda single parents in the first place. I've found a fan theory that gives a name to the father of Phineas and Candace. And, since this is the month of the Phineas and Ferb/Milo Murphy's Law crossover, I decided to post it now. I'm Clara Murphy, Queen of Fan Theories, and here's one that almost makes too much sense.

I actually don't know where this one originated, but I'm reposting it because like I just said, this makes way too much sense. So, who is he, you ask? Yes, it's a character that's actually in the show already. In fact, he's in literally every episode. And he's even been in the spinoff show.

Yep. I just showed you that picture. This theory holds that the first husband of Linda and the father of Candace and Phineas is none other than Doctor Heinz Doofenshmirtz!

That's your brain right now, isn't it?

And to be honest, we did see him and Linda at a movie theatre in one episode (via flashback) in the 80s. So, you never know. They may have been married at some point. But then again, them going to a movie together once doesn't instantly mean they get married. (TAKE NOTE SHIPPERS) So that could go either way.

But that's not the real giveaway. It's the kids. Think about it: that's where Phineas got his head shape, along with his super inventiveness. In fact, there was once a sequence where he and Doofenshmirtz were doing things identically.

And that would also be where Candace got her insane bad luck, her over-the-top personality, and her insecurity. Plus, she and Vanessa both have a strong busting urge, and she doesn't give up even after countless failures to succeed. Sound familiar?

That would actually make it kind of interesting, because it would mean Perry is the nemesis of his owners' dad.

BUT, it ruins the whole Ferb/Vanessa thing. Okay, yes, he's Linda's stepson, and Vanessa is Doof's daughter by his second marriage. But still, I don't think it works.

Then again, it could make for a fun parody scene in the P&F Star Wars. Darthenshmirtz and Phineas, you know. "Kid, I AM your father." "What?!" "What, you didn't hear me? I. Am. Your. Father." Unless he already knew. I think he already knew what happened to his dad. Candace didn't know. Then Phineas started to explain what happened, and all I can get is that it's a "funny story". Maybe he ended up being the lowest of the Darths. *shrugs*

So, there it is! You can believe it or not, but I think it makes way, WAY too much sense.

Oh, and one more thing I didn't mention:

APRIL FOOLS!!!!

Did I get you worried there for a minute? Well, don't be freaked out. Trust me, I was freaked out a little after I first saw that. But a few years back, Dan Povenmire confirmed that this theory is not correct, and Doctor Heinz Doofenshmirtz is NOT their dad. And quite honestly, I am relieved. PHEW!

I guess I sort of did two April Fools Jokes--this post, and the fact that I didn't do it on April Fools Day. Yeah, it was Easter Sunday, and this has nothing to do with that, so I figured I'd do it the day after. Which worked out perfectly, if any of you fell for it. XD

So the question still remains. Who is (or was) their dad, really? And Ferb's mum? Well, I do have a couple ideas, for them both. But this is just a post I made for April Fools (which, BTW, Doofenshmirtz thinks 'is just a bore'--not after this, though, I'll bet). I'll do a separate post for those two.

MY Top 10 Favourite Screen Couples!

Happy Valentine's Day, fellow fans! Most people, around today, are thinking about romantic love and their sweethearts. This is a blog about fandoms, and it looks like I'm the queen. (Wait. What?*) So, why not do a post about the more romantic side of things? I'm Clara Murphy, Queen of Fandoms, and here is a special Valentine's Day post for you all.

*Reference to Brian Hull doing Let It Go using multiple Disney voices. The second voice was Captain Jack Sparrow. Just in case you didn't see that one.

First, let me give credit where it's due. Thanks to Miss Mary Horton for the idea! She did a post with the same title, so I figured--since I love fandoms and am hopelessly romantic--I'd do the same. However, I won't do it just once. I might make it a... well, not a tradition, exactly, but I think I'll do more posts along this line in the future, around Valentine's Day.

Here's how this will work. I will make a list--with their names, things they're from, one or two pics (none of which are mine, BTW), and a little bit about them and why they're wonderful/adorable. They won't be in any particular order, just in the order I think of them. Assuming that I do more posts like this in future years, those will be in other media or just another extension of this particular list.

Also, 'screen couples' in this case means 'big-screen couples', or couples in films. Not including television, or radio shows, or books, or anything like that. Just films this first time. Because if I included anything else they might possibly take over everything. XD

SO, in film, and in no particular order, here are MY top 10 favourite screen couples.

1) Emmett Brown and Clara Clayton (Back to the Future 3)

Come on! Our very own Doc Brown... falling in love!

And not just any old falling-in-love. He literally saves her from certain death. She risks her life to get back to him when she realizes she was wrong. They stick up for each other at the dance. Plus, while it is Love At First Sight, they also grow closer and bond. That's what I like to see.

I honestly think this was the first time I just found a couple completely adorable. <3

I mean, we all know Doc Brown--quite literally a mad scientist. And I did like him before. But then this movie happened, and... BOOM. The Wild West did something to him, I think, and it is awesome. Clara's very nice too. She's a schoolteacher, and she loves science and Jules Verne and astronomy and this just makes her so perfect for Doc. The chemistry between them is brilliant.

Just one more reason I love those movies, I suppose. But everything about it is just so sweet, and really... innocent, I guess. And then the ending. I mean, really, how many times do you see couples in movies whose relationships actually end in... well, that? Couples usually just end up being officially boyfriend and girlfriend, which EVERYONE knows is the most stable relationship possible. *extreme sarcasm* And yet, with this, we have something that lasts. Maybe, it will "stand for all time".

*sigh!* This is the sort of thing that needs to COME back to the future, okay?

2) Prince Adam and Belle (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)

Okay, first off, Belle. Having been a bookish girl who loses herself in stories and has always wanted adventure in fantastic other worlds... I kind of get her. She's liked by all, but understood by none. She lives in the world of imagination, and the rest of the people, well, don't. And maybe it's those stories she reads--along with her natural love for her father--that gives her the courage to take her father's place, thus kicking off the story.

But the Beast is good too. Okay, okay, Prince Adam is his real name. He doesn't start out good, though. He starts out as a bratty, selfish, temperamental boy. Think Kylo Ren without the Sith powers and praying to Vader. That's what gets him into this mess of enchantment. But he's touched by the girl, and wonders if she might be the one.

I won't go through the whole story, but one of my favourite parts is where he shows her the grand library. That's just really, really cool. Any bookish girl knows how much that meant to her.

I think a lot of people understand their relationship on a personal level. I've read people saying that this story could have been about them. "That small town girl who felt out of place and sang about her love of books and stories could have been me. The huge beast, alone and outcast, whose life was transformed by love, could have been John."

I guess it is a Tale As Old As Time.

3) Han Solo and Leia Organa (Star Wars 4-7)

Yes, I kind of stole this answer from Mary. ;)

And like she said, you probably don't need an explanation. Han Solo is awesome, clearly. Leia is great too--an actual Strong Female Character instead of a Sullen Action Girl. They're both rather sassy. In the words of one CS Lewis, "they were so used to quarrelling and making it up again that they got married so as to go on doing it more conveniently."

This is definitely a classic film couple. And it is in fact rather touching. They sort of break down each other's defences as they begin to fall in love, and it's very sweet. The wandering rogue is inspired to rise above his past and himself, and the lofty princess is lowered from her pride enough to admit her love. And so they're even.

Wow, that got poetic. Comes from reading too much Shakespeare's Star Wars. ;) But it's true.

4) Kit and Ella (Cinderella)

This is the best remake Disney has ever done, no question. This actually surpasses the original.

In the original, the Prince had no personality at all, and kind of just "picked the hottest babe at the ball", in the words of somebody or other. Love At First Sight, it's fine. But they can't just meet and then get married the next day. Unless you at least bond before you launch a kingdom-wide search for her, or are willing to face a dragon for this girl you just met, I'm not sure I'd buy it.

But that's where this movie works best. They met before the ball, and neither knew who the other was. Prince Charming (AKA Kit) fell in love with her inner beauty, and couldn't stop thinking about her. It's the same with her. They're so sweet together, and they genuinely seem like they're in love. They seem real.

5) Robin Fitzooth and Marian Huntingdon (The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men)

If none of you remember, Disney made a live-action version of the story of Robin Hood back in the 1950s. IT WAS AMAZING. So much about this movie is awesome, but I'm just talking about Robin and Marian for now.

I think the main thing about them is that they're so... merry-spirited. What would you expect? But I think a lot of the more recent adaptations don't have that part down. That's why this one is so awesome. :D

In short, they're just so much fun. Even when bad things happen and they have to grow up a little, they don't lose that, er, merriness.

Oh, and they're also stubborn, so if they think the other or anyone else is in the wrong, they won't back down until either they're proven right or proven wrong. And by "proven wrong" I mean "knocked into the river by Little John". :P

Then of course, there was this. This is just after Marian has proven herself right--she'd gone out in disguise to find out the truth, and Robin and the men gave all their takings to her, so she could put it in the ransom money for Richard. This scene is what happens on the way back to the castle. Slightly more serious, though it still has a bit of fun.

I forgot to mention that the music is absolutely wonderful.

6) Steve Trevor and Diana of Themyscira (Wonder Woman)

Some reviewer described her favourite parts as, and I quote, "Dancing, baby, snowflakes, and... NOOOOOO!" XD Those things are just part of the wonderfulness that is this movie. Really, really sweet parts of it.

I love how Diana is all tough and strong and all, but at the same time so innocent and wonderful. And Steve--well, if this movie had been done wrong, he could have ended up as some weak unpowered man who needs Wonder Woman to come save him all the time. But no: he's a soldier and a spy, and he fights. And he is one of my favourite characters. (Makes that "NOOOOO!" so difficult for us all. :(  ).

And honestly, though, he has to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't blow her cover in front of the whole city. It's fun to watch him try to make her seem like she fits in. ("Oh, sure, and suddenly she's NOT the most beautiful girl you've ever seen." *that secretary sarcasm*) He teaches her what our world is like. But it's not like trying to teach a caveman what a pizza is or something clichéd like that--Diana's intelligent, and opinionated, and she is on a very determined mission...

...and yet she jumps through revolving doors and melts at the sight of a baby. And is absolutely amazed at snow. GAHH, there is so much that I just absolutely love about this movie. Especially Diana and Steve.

This is a very unique and beautiful superhero story, and I love it so, so much. <3


7) Charlie Brown and the Little Red-Haired Girl (The Peanuts Movie)

Does anyone not know about this one? Charlie Brown is in love with the little red-haired girl, but--being Charlie Brown--can't work up the nerve to go over and talk to her. The Peanuts Movie does this perfectly. Well, okay, it does EVERYTHING perfectly, but this part especially.

Charlie Brown does so much throughout the film to try and impress her. He tries to show that he's a winner, that he IS Something. But he keeps ending up embarrassed in front of everybody, and always because he does something nice for somebody else. (This movie really makes me love good old Charlie Brown, despite his bad luck.)

THEN that ending. *SPOILERS*

She volunteers on the last day of school to be Charlie Brown's pen pal over the holidays. He wants to know if she did it because she felt sorry for him, and goes on a mad dash to catch her before she leaves on the bus. When he gets there, he finally talks to her, and asks her: why would you want to be partners with me?

She says "That's easy: because I've seen the type of person you are ... when I look at you, I don't see a failure at all. You have all the qualities that I admire."

(Side note: there's almost a parallel between this and the story Snoopy's writing. Which just makes it even better. I almost put both of them in the title, but I don't know the girl pilot dog's name. It's pretty cool, though!)

I gotta agree with Linus: it must feel pretty great to be Charlie Brown right about now.

8) Kate McKay and Leopold Mountbatten (Kate and Leopold)

Did I mention I love time travel?

Okay, I don't usually watch movies that are over 64% romance; maybe because it starts to feel sappy and chick-flick-ish, and I like cool exciting movies better. Yeah, things like that can be fine (provided it's done really well), but if it's not, and the rest of the story isn't interesting, I'll probably skip it. This one is like 85% romance. But it is great.

First, Leopold is awesome. He's so smart and kind, and he tries to make every situation better wherever he goes. He's brave too--I love that part where he goes after a thief who stole Kate's purse and threatens to swordfight him. And he gets it back, too. Plus he's funny. He's honestly... well, GOOD.

Okay, Kate is fine too. She doesn't start out quite as well as he does, being just another career-woman. Still, by the end, [SPOILERS] she is willing to give up everything to be with him. That takes a lot of courage. (Reminds me of another movie, but that one had magic and evil sorcerers and frogs, and I'll probably be including it in another post.)

In short, this is a really cool one. Maybe I just really like ones with old-fashioned guys and love that's THAT strong. Or maybe I just really love time travel. Who knows. ;)

9) Phillip and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

This one is a classic. That's Reason #1 to like it.

But really, even though they only met the one time, he was literally willing to fight a dragon to save her. If that's Love At First Sight, it's gotta be the strongest I've ever seen it. That is some powerful love.

You know... perhaps it's true; perhaps they really did meet Once Upon a Dream. That's an idea I would have loved to see explored in a remake. As it is, the remake ruins all this. Philip is pointless, doesn't even fight a dragon/the most evil witch ever/all the Powers of Hell to save Aurora. YOU HAD ONE JOB!

BUT, that's why we rewatch the original after every horrible remake. I'm not kidding, when I watched this after watching Maleficent, I just about cried SO MANY TIMES. This is so innocent, and yet so powerful.

Another reason I love it? This video.

This gives me chills every time. And that's a good thing!



10) Joseph and Mary (The Nativity Story)

*cue shock from all readers*

Yes, I just included THE Joseph and Mary in this list.

But watch the film. They were kind of thrown together by fate (or, well, Providence), and yet they're perfect together. I mean, not ACTUALLY perfect, but... you know what I mean.

Joseph is such a good man. Even when he thinks Mary was unfaithful, he still doesn't accuse her, but just divorces her quietly. He doesn't want her to get hurt. Then when they go on their journey to Bethlehem, he protects her in a lot of ways. He even saves her from drowning. Mary even says "My Son, You will have a good and decent man to raise you. A man who will give of himself before anyone else."

Okay, I have to remind myself that this whole section is not just about Joseph. Though he's truly a good man, and Oscar Isaac does a great job acting this part.

Mary is a nice girl, but... I don't know, maybe it was just her rather sulky reaction to her being betrothed. It's not like she should have been surprised. However, aside from that, I thought she was fine. The actress plays the part quite well.

In short, these two are the best representations of Joseph and Mary I've seen in a film. Their story is powerful, and they definitely earn their place on this list.
